Kylie Cosmetics Metal Matte Lipsticks Dupes

I really liked the look of the Metal Matte lipsticks that Kylie Cosmetics just launched. However, I am not a fan of liquid lipsticks because I find them super hard to apply with my clumsy hands. I also did not like the color choices that she offered, I found the colours hard to wear. So, I decided to start looking for regular lipstick forms of those Metal Mattes. I am rarely impressed by drugstore brands but I fell in love with those Revlon ones. I find that the Pearl finish is almost identical to the finish of Kylie's Metal Matte lipsticks. It is also cheaper and easier to apply.

They have a lot of colours in the Pearl finish. I chose only three (and pink based) because it was the most wearable on a day to day basis.

They have so many colours, some of them are almost exactly like Kylie's

The pictures from this photoshoot will be up soon!
I did my own makeup on this one so we'll see how it turns out!

Rainforest of the sea by Tarte

Hey guys,
So I ordered these bad boys last week and I forgot to tell you about them! I am in love with the foundation because it is super lightweight and has great coverage at the same time. The Becca highlighter by Jaclyn Hill is all that I expected. I had high hopes for it because my friend could not stop talking about how amazing it is. Turns out, it really is! I wore it at least 4 times since I received it, and got a lot of compliments. My quest for the perfect concealer also continued, that is why I ordered Fake-Up, by Benefit. It is super hydrating for my under-eyes but it does not cover my dark circles very well. I love all the Nars blushes and this one too. I am rarely disappointed by Nars so I knew this one would be great. It is a nice light pink-violet shade, perfect for summer.

This movie is everything. Brilliantly directed, great soundtrack (The Strokes), amazing actors. I watched it first 6 years ago and rewatched it 3 times since. I just like its slow pace compared to most movies we see these days. It reminds me of the slowness in narrative of some French movies, which is rarely seen in an american one.
It will make you feel in another state of mind, kinda like the one of a hot and humid summer day, when you are out on the porch, the sun blinding you... thinking about nothing and everything.

Makeup Geek and my first Z palette

I forgot to tell you guys that about a week ago, I received my first ever Z palette along with 16 Makeup Geek Eyeshadows. I tried a few of them and they are exactly what some youtubers claim: very pigmented and easy to blend. The foiled ones are my favorite! I really like the fact that you can buy single eyeshadows and arrange them the way you want in this Z palette, which acts like a magnet. In fact, I found out that when I buy palettes like the Tartelette one or the Too Faced Bonbon, I usually end up only using 4 or 5 shades in the palette.
I think that in the future, I am going to get the Mac individual ones because they are high quality and they just deceased their prices, due to the Makeup Geek competition.
Makeup Geek price: $6 USD or approximately $8 CAD (and that does not include shipping)
Mac price: $6 USD or $8 CAD

Names of these shadows (not in order): Crème Brûlée, Houdni, Flame Thrower, Frappé, Peach Smoothie, Preppy, Cocoa Bear, Bitten, Mai Tai, Shimma Shimma, In the Spotlight (Foiled), Poppy, Bedrock, Mermaid, Phantom (Duochrome) and Masquerade (Foiled).
My daughter was very intrigued by the pretty package when it arrived at the house.

Lise Watier: From Canada with love

I decided to try some Lise Watier products and I was not disappointed! I was always hesitant to try them because I though that Lise Watier catered to an older clientele. However, I found out that they cary Matte liquid lipsticks and that made want to try it.

Walking with my 2 amours

It's so snowy and cold most of the year that it really makes us appreciate the days where the sun is out and the temperature is over 15 degrees.

Summer is here (almost- it's Canada after all)

So I went summer shopping in search for the perfect semi-high waisted jeans. I wanted that 90's style. I finally found them at Levi's. Meanwhile, my daughter was having a blast at home with daddy. Apparently, she started to throw things on the ground in order to see what will happen next... obviously she wants us to pick up the toys. She is so sneaky but adorable. Anyway, I picked up two Bite beauty Amuse-bouche lipsticks from Sephora and this Nars Yachiyo brush from The Bay (Nars department).
The two shades are perfect for summer, I thought.
They don't look the same at the sunlight. The lighting in this room doesn't do them justice. I'll post pictures of them later. On the left is Honeycomb, on the right is Sweet Cream.

My hand is full of half-washed swatches as you can see!

This brush is a little gift from me to me :p. I find that it's gonna look great on my vanity and it is super multipurpose. I can use it for blush, bronzer and powder. Plus, it is handmade!

Ladurée Makeup!?

I just realized, while watching one of Tati's video (on youtube), that Ladurée had a makeup line, only sold in France. I remember eating the macarons in Paris but certainly not seeing the makeup. I don't know if I would trust a pâtissier making makeup. It sounds delicious thought!

You can see the line here:

Nars Gloss in Triple X Review

For as long as I can remember, glosses for me rhymed with High School. In fact, I used to put a lot of black kôlh around my eyes, blush at the wrong place and a little bit of gloss on my lips (preferably pink and cheap). I am sure a lot of you remember these days... or bad-makeup days as I would say. It's ok, we were all learning, especially me :p. I think that I changed my perception of glosses when I bought this Triple X one from Nars. Originally, I got this to put on my lids (what!? yes). I wanted to recreate that "wet eyelids" look that I saw in Vogue. Let me tell you that it failed miserably. However, I repurposed this gloss to put on top of any lipstick to create that mirror effect on my lips. I like it because it is not tacky and sticky like my previous High School lip glosses were. It is completely translucent, so it can work over any lipstick, all the colours you want.

I removed one point because it doesn't last the whole day. But which gloss does?

Best lip liner: Mac Whirl vs Smashbox Always Sharp in Nude Medium

Left: Whirl (Mac Lip pencil)
Right: Nude Medium (Smashbox Always Sharp lip liner)

Despite all the hype about Mac's Whirl, I have to say that I prefer Smashbox always Sharp lip liner because:
- It is creamy (not drying for the lips like the Mac one)
- It lasts longer than Mac throughout the day
- It truly it always super sharp, which makes the application way easier

Product Review: Dior Addict Lip Maximizer

I wanted to test out some of these lip plumper products, following the “Kylie Jenner big lips” trend. I had tried the Too Faced Lip Injection and the Buxom one in the past. The first one did the trick but the second one was disappointing. I then tried the Dior Lip Maximizer (pictured above) and I can tell you that it changed the size of my lips. The product recommends a 14 days treatment, which I did. I was also told to put it on once a day, morning or night, on bare lips. You can see the before and after photo above. I would definitely recommend this lip maximizer to a friend. However I was afraid to eat while I had the product on my lips because I did not want to swallow any of the weird ingredients it contains (let me tell you, this is very far from a “natural and organic” product! :s)... Rate: 8.5/10

Bobbi Brown Corrector Review

I woke up this morning with very visible dark circles under my eyes (thanks to my 8 months old little girl!) So, I decided to give my Bobbi Brown Corrector a try. The texture of the product feels like a paste and it is meant to be applied under your concealer. I used the tip of my finger so that it can be applied with a bit of heat under my eyes, especially close to the inner corners . For people with wrinkles or lines under the eyes like me, this product will also fill them, thanks to the pasty texture as well. I then proceeded to apply my favourite Nars concealer with a beauty blender. On top, I put the Laura Mercier Translucent powder, again with my damp beauty blender. I am not wearing any foundation today because I thought that my under eyes was the only area that needed to be taken care of. I give this product 9/10. It is very good, a bit better than my Benefit Erase Paste. I have to say that I never ever saw my under eyes looking this good (no creasing!).

Best primer for dry skin

I've tried a lot of primers, mostly because I always get them in sample size when I buy a product from the Sephora website. I've also tried the Nivea After-Shave (hello, youtube gurus) and I felt like it was a bit too tacky. This primer is super hydrating and minimizes the look of pores. I don't have dry patches when I use this one under my foundation. It also does not contain silicone (like most primers) that can damage your skin in the long run. I could even see myself using this one as a simple day cream, as it makes my skin looks flawless (ok, let's not exaggerate here, but you know what I mean).

Glam look: Full list of products used

Bronzer (served also as contour): Tarte in Park Ave Princess
Lipstick: Mac Brave
Setting Spray: Mac Fix Plus

* Since my MAC Brave lipstick is not a matte finish like I wanted it to be, I decided to use a bit of finely milled powder to make it matte. You just need to gently dab the power on your lips, using your fingers.

BH Cosmetics SF Palette Review

When I received this palette about 2 months ago, I first tried it and thought to myself: "wow this is definitely not pigmented enough, it won't blend easily". I then proceeded to put it in my "bad purchase decision" drawer. This morning, I decided to give it a second chance but it still didn't pass the test. I had to put a lot of product on my brush (along with fix plus) in order for the colours to show on my lids. I would not repurchase. However, I think that it would be a great starter kit for someone who rarely puts eyeshadows on. I also like the choice of colours it offers. The intention was good, the formula of the product is not.

To improve: I have to find a better concealer-powder combination for me under-eyes. I need a concealer and a powder that won't crease like it does on the pictures. It makes me look way older. I already have the Laura Mercier loose setting translucent powder and the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer but I need something especially made for dry under eyes. I am thinking that the Naked Skin one by Urban Decay might just do the trick...

MAC: bad product/ good product

It is very rare that I don't like one of MAC's products. In fact, MAC is probably my favourite makeup brand. I bought this BB Cream because I thought that it would act as a transition for me in order to eventually start using liquid foundation, which I am not used to at all. I was wrong. This product claims to moisturize, correct and protect the skin against UV. They also told me that it acted as a tinted moisturizer, which was the exact characteristic that I was looking for. "BB" stands for blemish balm and let me tell you, when a products claims to have that many benefits, it rarely is true. The MAC BB cream created dry patches on my skin and you can see my pores very well when I wear it. It is very similar to a bad drying foundation, rather than a BB cream.

Now for the good stuff! This Mineralized Skinfinish changed my makeup game for good. It is in the shade "Soft and Gentle". I apply it a bit above my blush to define my cheekbones. I also use it in my inner corners of the eyes and bellow the brow bone. I even use it as an eyeshadow on days when I want a less dramatic makeup, more "everyday" look. I also use it on my cupid's bow to create the illusion of bigger lips. I would put this in my cereals in the morning. I can't wait to try other Mineralized Skinfinishes! It really does give you a glow and wakes you up better than coffee.

Same Makeup, Different Lashes

The only difference between these two photos is that on the first one, I am wearing false lashes. What a huge difference it makes, don't you think?

Lipstick: Mac Ruby Woo
False Lashes: Ardell Demi Black

* Also I have my hair down on the second one, obviously. :p

Foundations I have been using

I am not gonna lie, until about 4 weeks ago, I was not a big fan of liquid foundations. I used to wear only powder foundations. I guess I was really traumatized by my High School makeup faux pas and that made me avoid those types of foundations. For instance, I remember that I used to pick them at least 3 shades darker than my actual skin tone... And I did not apply foundation down neck! I still don't apply this product on my ears, I am not *there* yet.

I decided to buy the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation because it had great reviews on youtube. I am the shade Y225. However, when I returned from vacation I noticed that I was a lot more tan and my MUFE foundation was now way too pale. I then decided to get the cheaper Maybeline one in shade 125. These days, I mix them together because my tan is slowly fading.

My review:
I would say that you pay for what you get. The MUFE one doesn't tend to oxydize compared to the Maybeline one, which tends to become a bit orange at the end of the day. Both of them don't create dry patches, which is what I am looking for in a liquid foundation. I haven't tried yet the ones that claim to be "Matte" and "Pore-less", although I am getting there :p.

Tartelette and Anastasia BH Concealer

Let me start by saying that the people responsible for translation at Anastasia Beverly Hills need one or two French classes. They wrote "idéal pour une peau de moyen" which translates into "ideal for a skin of medium". However, the expression in French "avoir les moyens" means "being able to afford". So I guess they are trying to say "for a skin with a lot of money to buy this expensive concealer...?" Ok bad joke here, let's continue.
Anyways, I received the concealer as a sample and I tried the shade 2.5, which is for beige undertone skin.  I liked this concealer because it felt like a paste. It is different from my all time favorite, the Nars Radiant one, which is much creamier. I guess this ABH concealer would be ideal for people with fine lines under the eye because the paste will fill them. However, I would not recommend this for people with dry under eyes, since its pasty consistency tends to appear cakey under the eye (especially if you set the concealer with a powder that is not finely milled).

For my eyes, I used the Tartelette Palette:
Crease: Combination of "Power Player" and "Natural Beauty"
Inner and outer V of the lid: "Bombshell"
Center of the lid: Combination of "Caregiver" and "Best Friend"
Lash Line: "fashionista"
Under the eye: "Bombshell" and "Caregiver" mixed together

I believe in the power of blending for the eyeshadows on the crease! I think that the best thing to do in order for the eyeshadows to create a natural dept for the eye is to blend the colours together as much a you can. This also applies to any part of your makeup. For instance, you have to blend your contour (or bronzer) if you don't want people to think that you have dirt of your face :p. Nevertheless, I liked this palette a lot, although I have to say that some shadows, like the one called "best friend", are very difficult to blend and poorly pigmented compared to other shadows at that price point.

To improve for next time: I think I overdrew my eyebrows a bit too much, especially in the middle of the brow. I need to go with a gentler hand next time.

Received today

I am always a bit too happy to receive a Sephora package at my door... This time, I ordered a self-tanning night moisture mask that claims to have anti-aging properties. I bought it because most reviews said that "You are gonne wake up with a glow"... Let's see about that :p

I also received a few samples like the Chloe Roses Perfum. So far, it is a great success because it apparently smells like Bulgarian roses!

Today's makeup and products used

I don't claim to be a makeup professional. However, I always like to learn new techniques in order to improve. Today, I have noticed that I might get a little too crazy with highlighter just above the cupid's bow. I also need to improve the way that I put on liquid lipstick. In fact, I should start using lip liners and perhaps put a bit of concealer around the lips to "correct" the application of liquid lipstick. This is also a way to stop it from bleeding*.

*Bleeding is a term used when the lipstick gets into the fine lines around your lips. Trust me, it is not pretty!

Today, I used:
- The naked 2 palette by urban decay for my eyes
- Lancôme "Effet miracle" primer. This thing makes you look like you have no pores! It is to be applied before the foundation.
- Fit Me liquid foundation in number 125.
- MAC Eye Khôl in Teddy.
- MAC Soft and Gentle Mineralized skin finish.
